Ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) testing in Guyana.
UPV testing measures how fast an ultrasonic pulse travels through concrete. Faster means denser and more uniform concrete, so voids, honeycombing, and cracks can be found without coring or demolition.
What it measures
Transit time of a pulse between two transducers over a known path length, converted to pulse velocity in km/s.
Used for
- Checking uniformity across a slab, beam, or column
- Locating voids, honeycombing, and cracks
- Assessing existing concrete before refurbishment or change of use
- Comparing quality between pours
